What to expect in a PALS class

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) training focuses on improving the quality of care given to seriously ill or injured children during emergencies. Course content includes:

  • Identifying patients who require intervention (and those who do not)
  • Differentiating between pediatric respiratory distress and pediatric respiratory failure
  • Early interventions for treating shock in children and infants
  • Best practices for administering CPR to children and infants
  • Systems-based approaches to pediatric assessment using initial impression, primary and secondary assessments, and diagnostic tests
  • Priorities and interventions to consider for infants and children with respiratory and/or circulatory emergencies
  • Communicating effectively and managing team dynamics during  pediatric resuscitation
  • Selection and administration of appropriate cardiorespiratory monitoring
  • Selection and administration of medications and electrical therapies when treating pediatric arrhythmia
  • Establishing rapid capsular access to administer fluid and medications
  • Key elements of post-resuscitation management in children and infants
